MiTec MailViewer

Any one who has ever tried to open a DBX file has discovered that the data it contains is encoded and not "readable" by a human.
This handy tool translates the data into a readable form.

If you have a DBX that you're not sure contains any messages, simply open it in the Viewer and it will display the list of messages.
Selecting and double clicking a message in the list will open it in a separate window.

You can also select and save individual messages as EML files. It can also save just an attachment.
The EML files will open in an OE message window and be fully functional for Replies, Forwarding, etc.

This tool gives you the ability to store DBX files outside of the OE program (reducing the clutter and strain on the program) and yet be able to access those DBX files with their messages.

A nice feature is the ability to associate the DBX file-type with the program, enabling you to open a DBX file by simply double clicking it.

To make the association:

Place the Viewer EXE in a new folder in C:/Program Files.
Right click a DBX file and click "Open with>Choose Program" on the menu.
Click the Browse button on the Choose Program window.
Navigate to and select the Viewer EXE file.
Check the box "Always use the selected program to open this file type" on the Choose Program window and click OK.
Double clicking on a DBX will now open it with the Viewer.

This will even work on storage media, giving you the ability to open DBX files stored on external drives and CD's.

A very versatile and useful tool.

USING DBXTRACT

Create a New folder on the desktop and place the DBX file in it.

Download and unzip DBXtract to the desktop.
Double click the DBXtract.exe file to run it.

In the Action section, set it to save "By Subject". The "Remove Re:" will remove the Re: from the message title of replies so it's up to you if you leave that checked or not.
DO NOT check Recover mode.

In the Input section, click the Browse button.
Browse to the folder containing the DBX file and click OK.
The "Path" line should now point to the folder with the DBX file and the "File" line should have the name of the DBX file.

In the Output section, click the Browse button. Browse to the same folder as the Input.
The Input Path and the Output Path should be the same.
Click the Extract button.
If there are any messages that can be recovered, they will show up in the same folder with the DBX and be in the form of individual EML messages.
The EML's can be drag and dropped into any folder in OE.
